“Old Ironsides” Battle Scene Clock
c. 1850, Mahogany Banjo-Style Wall Clock, Very Fine.
This 29” x 11” x 3.75” banjo-style clock features a face that is hand-painted, likely with stencil. The trunk of the clock holds an opaque panel with a hand-painted heraldic eagle and shield. The pendulum door has a view of the battle between the American frigate The USS Constitution and the British vessel Guerriere. Though the clock is missing its brass finial, it is still a beautiful example.
