Rare Chelsea 12″ Large Dial Wall Clock sold by Grogan Co., Pittsburgh, sold as the “Chelsea” model in both ship’s bell and non-striking clocks circa 1923-1929, and pictured in Chelsea’s Catalog K dated March 1, 1923. This example is eight-day time only, with plain silvered dial, black Arabic numerals, seconds bit at 12 o’clock, black enamel “moon” hands and fast-slow regulator. In polished bronze or “red” brass case with hinged bezel. Engraved on dial Chelsea inside seconds bit and retailer’s name GROGAN COMPANY / PITTSBURGH above 6 o’clock. Serial #165363 engraved on back of flange; dial measures 12″ diameter; bezel and back flange about 14.5″ diameter; weight 25 pounds. Original brass Chelsea key included.

The Demeters conclude (see page 103) in Chelsea Clock Company / The First Hundred Years, that perhaps no more than 1,000 12-inch dial clocks in all of their styles were manufactured before being removed from the product line in the early 1940s.
