German Wag on the Wall Clock, fourth quarter 19th century, with turned tombstone-form wooden dial and chapter ring raised above the spandrels of the dial. The chapter ring has three rings of numerals with the main or central ring being radial Roman, inner calendar in radial Arabic with alternate numerals displayed and intervening shown as diamonds. The outer minute ring is again radial Arabic with every five minute marked and intervening shown as ticks. The spandrels have a polychrome painted laurel swag along bottom and a painted drapery across top with the arch having a beautifully painted spray of mixed flowers, surmounted by a classical form footed urn in gold and blue. The movement is a typical 19th century German brass bell strike with mortised wooden pillars and plates. Seat plate is pine and shows evidence of having been mounted in a case at some point. Retains its original tombstone back plate with hole for hanging on wall, original brass pendulum and its single cast iron weight, 14.25″ x 5.4″ x 17.4″ high, less chains.
