Dial signed N. Munroe” for Nathaniel
Munroe, Concord, Massachusetts, ca. 1805.
Figured mahogany with pine secondary
wood. A two-part case with a fretwork
pediment, string inlay, and resting on ogee
bracket feet. The eight-day brass movement
has a steel dial with restored paint. Retains
weight, pendulum, and key. 35″h. 13 1/4″w.
6 3/4″d. Munroe apprenticed under Abel
Hutchins and worked in Concord with his
brother, Daniel, from 1800-1807, and with
Samuel Whiting from 1808-1817, at which
point Munroe headed south to Baltimore.
His Concord manufactury was large,
employing seven or eight apprentices. For

Condition report
Condition: Replaced finial, repainted dial (accurately restored), older finish, minor cracks in the fretwork.
