EXCEPTIONAL FRENCH PORCELAIN MTD. CARRIAGE CLOCK, the ornate cast bronze domed body with carrying handle, four turned finials, strap work and caryatid mounted corners, the sides mounted with finely painted porcelain figural panels. The raised enameled dials with gilt boss marked by retailer Rob Plessner 1886 Dresden. Provenance: William Steinway, founder of Steinway piano company, divorced his wife Regina on learning his youngest son was not his. He remarried Elizabeth Ranft (from a family of felt manufacturers) of Dresden in August of 1880 from who’s family the clock was a Christmas gift.
