Pillar-and-scroll mantel clock case by Eli Terry and Sons, Plymouth, Connecticut. c.1825. Secondary pine with mahogany and mahogany veneered pillar-and-scroll case together with replaced brass movement by Waterbury. Surmounted with three brass finials, above polychrome painted wood dial with raised gilt dots and leaves on ring, spandrels with gilt scrollwork, along with Roman numerals. The door with reverse painting on glass tablet and gilt border enclosing a garland of flowers and leaves. Intact paper label inside of clock: ” Patent Clocks/Invented By/Eli Terry/Made And Sold At Plymouth, Connecticut/E. Terry & Sons.” 30”h x 17 1/4”w x 4”d.

Condition report

Replaced finials. Old replacement of glass tablet with some flaking of paint. Crest is slightly warped and veneer is lightly cracked. One-inch loss to upper left corner of veneer strip below left finial. Replaced works with Waterbury Clock Co. metal works. Face altered to accommodate new works. Should see in person.
