H. J. Davies “Crystal Palace No. 1” mantel clock under a French dome, the round gilt cast metal clock face with green enameled accents to the foliate surround centered with anthemion and foliage. The tin dial lithographed with Goddess’s and putti, with gilt Roman numerals. Dial marked, “H. J. Davies patent applied for.” Raised on a shaped wooden frame with mirror back and porcelain angel pendulum, flanked by patinated cast figures of an oarsman and mate. Working 8-day movement and bell strike; all on a oval wooden base. Back of clock with green label, “The Crystal Palace Clocks, Davies Sole Man’f, Patented Jan 26, 1875,” with losses to label. 16.75″H, with dome 19″H, Circa – 1870-1880.
