A French Louis XV style silvered metal mounted cream lacquered mantel clock, circa 1900, the eight-day bell striking movement with platform lever escapement and white enamel Roman numeral dial with retailers signature HOWELL & JAMES LIMITED…, the waisted case with rocaille cast edge mounts to front and on festoon swag applied concave fronted plinth base with scroll feet, 27cm high.
Condition report
Movement is intact but not currently running as is overwound, however escapement appears free from damage so probably just requires a clean and overhaul. Dial has a series of hairline cracks to the upper numerals of the chaper ring but appears free of chips/losses to enamel. Case has overall wear and crazing to cream lacquer finish with noticeable flaking to carcass joints within the case, the metal mounts are complete but are tarnished and worn. Generally a very decorative clock with an attractive `lived in` feel. Clock does not have a winding key.
