Detouche French Portico Mantel Clock,
19th c., time and strike, silvered engraved dial with Roman numerals and MARTINO / PARIS within painted metal frame, brass movement signed “Detouche / Rue St. Martin 16 / Made in France / 820″, lacquered natural wooden case having four Egyptian-style columns set on rectangular stepped base, the whole heavily inlaid with Dutch marquetry, large gilt brass pendulum resembling a Grecian shield. Includes later Swiss key. Louis Constantin Detouche was a highly regarded associate of the French master clockmaker Robert Houdin. – 19.5″ x 10.5″ x 6” – A few light scratches, minor areas of inlay loss, stains and hairlines on both sides of base, age cracks and splits.
