‘ISA. NICKALS, WELLS’, SOMERSET, ENGLISH MAHOGANY GRANDFATHER CLOCK, C. 1750, H 90″, W 19″, D 10″:Oak case, hood has two freestanding columns flanking brass and pewter dial. Roman numerals, second dial, day of the week indicator. Has single door opening to two iron weights and brass pendulum. Weights do not match. Crested by three brass turned finials surmounted by eagles. Reference: Isaac Nickals is recorded in Baillie, G H ‘Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World’ as working circa 1750.
