CIRCA 1750 NEW ENGLAND GRANDFATHER CLOCK SIMILAR TO THE ONE IN THE RUGGLES MUSEUM. THE CASE IS PINE AND STAINED WITH A CHERRY TYPE FINISH. IT APPEARS THAT THE FINISH IS NOT NEW; HOWEVER, IT COULD HAVE BEEN REFINISHED IN THE 19TH C. THE MOVEMENT IS BRASS AND IS EIGHT DAY AND THE FACE IS MADE OF METAL. THIS CLOCK WAS FROM THE HARPER ESTATE OF THE HARPER PUBLISHING COMPANY AND WAS PURCHASED BY THE O’CONNOR FAMILY WHOSE ESTATE WE ARE SELLING. THE CLOCK WAS PURCHASED OUT OF THE ESTATE BACK IN 1932 ON CAMPOBELLO ISLAND. AS I UNDERSTAND IT MS. HARPER’S ESTATE WAS NEAR TO FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT’S HOME ON THE ISLAND AS WAS THE O’CONNOR HOME AND WHEN THE AUCTION CAME UP THE O’CONNORS PURCHASED QUITE A CONSIDERABLE NUMBER OF ITEMS THAT TODAY WE HAVE THE PRIVILEGE TO SELL.
