Elegant mahogany nine chime tube Durfee Grandfather Clock retailed by Tiffany and Co. Made by Walter Durfee with Elliot movement. This fine piece was made by Walter Durfee, Providence, R.I., the premier grandfather clock maker and the first American to own a patent for the chime mechanism for grandfather clocks. It’s nine tubes are each signed Walter Durfee, with 29 1/2 day hand painting moon dial, both Westminster and Eight Bell chimes, and a second hand. It chimes on each quarter hour and strikes the hour. Face is signed Tiffany & Co. New York. The artistically hand carved mahogany case has a beautiful carved top bonnet with a center finial flanked by finials on either side. The sides of the hood and case feature beautifully carved columns. There is an open carved fretwork on each side of the hood. A beveled arched glass is in the door. The clock has claw feet (each corner has three claw feet). This clock has been serviced cleaned and maintained by a Master Clock maker and is in great working order. Keeps great time.
