This is a beautiful French Victorian Alabaster Figural Clock w/ Pendulum. This ornate French Alabaster Figural Clock sits on 2 carved wolf legs and has a boar head on front with chain through its nose. The is a Victorian Woman dancing on top next to clock. It measures 14 1/2 inches long x 15 inches tall x 4 inches wide. Alabaster is a fine-grained massive translucent variety of gypsum. It is pure white or streaked with reddish brown. Alabaster forms by the evaporation of bedded deposits that are precipitated mainly from evaporating seawater. Alabaster was extensively used by the Egyptians in sarcophagi in the linings of tombs in the walls and ceilings of temples and in vases and sacrificial vessels. The Romans worked the Algerian and Egyptian quarries and used the stone for similar purposes. The French make extensive use of alabaster in interior decoration.
