Rare Antique Ithaca Large Double Dial Calendar Clock-c.1899-All Original & in Excellent Condition w/ 8 Day Time & Strike Movement Gongs every hour. The top dial feature black roman numerals lines for minute markers & cross style hands. The lower calendar dial displays arabic numerals as well as month & date windows & a crescent moon pointer* *approx. 26 inches high x 12 inches long x 5 3/4 inches wide* *Note: Company History) The Ithaca Calendar Clock Co. was founded in 1865 to manufacture clocks with claendar mechanism which Henry B. Horton was granted a patent in April 18th 1865 and improvements on August 28th 1866 with very little money & began operations in 1865. Some of the firms earliest clocks were installed in iron cases patented by Henry B. Horton & they were cast by a local foundry. Cases made of wood in many styles were manufactured later by the Ithaca Calendar Clock Co. Prior to 1890 the Co. used E.N.Welch Poneroy & Bubbell Movements. The calendar mechanish was manufactured assembled tested & marketed at their plant in America. Henry Horton & Merritt Wood Patented a device for testing the calendar mechanism on the 11th of July 1867 & as many asa 108 clocks a day could be tested. The Ithaca Calenday Clock Co moved to another facility & a joint stock corp. was formed. The buisness grew so well that in 1874 they commenced a new 3 story building in June 1875 & a fire totally destroyed the clock on Feb. 12 1876 a new factory was erected. The clock firms greatest prosperity was from 18785-1900 & they added a non-calendar clock in 1898. It was a floor standing clock to there line it was the Grandfather Clock & it was spring driven. Because the springs were inexpensive & the movements were manfuctured in Connecticut they were in production 20 years. Over the 50 years several dozen different calendar models were made in sizes from 16 inches to 72 inches high in mantel & wall hanging from bank models parlors library & farmers models. By 1917 the Ithace Calendar Clock Co. was bankrupt and on March 14th 1917 the real estate & personal propery of the firm was sold at public auction to settle their liabilities.
