Mahogany Patent Timepiece or “Banjo” Clock by Aaron Willard, Jr., Boston, Massachusetts, c. 1815, a carved Doggett eagle finial over the 8 in. dia. painted iron dial with Roman numerals, brass side ornaments flanking the reverse-painted tablets, the waist with stenciled oak leaves and marked A. Willard, Jr. , the lower with the remains of, and marked, The Constitution’s Escape with banner below listing Belvidera, Gurriere, Aeolus, Shannon, Constitution, Africa, eight-day timepiece movement with “T-bridge” suspension, through bolts for case attachment, recoil escapement, lead weight and pendulum, ht. 34 3/4 in.

Condition report

Condition: Holes through bottom board indicate a missing pedestal, side ornaments are replacements, dial, hands, weight and pendulum are period.
